Working with Essex Community Foundation, we are very happy to be able to invite you to join us for our Summertime workshops at Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome.
Funded by the Link-ed Mike Williamson Memorial Fund, these workshops are a perfect way to get together to enjoy something new and exciting.
Each adult can bring up to three young people, aged 7-11, to the Aerodrome to enjoy a fun-packed session that will last from 11am to 2.30pm. All guests will need a ticket, and tickets are very limited – please book ASAP. If you can’t make it, please cancel your ticket, too – we want to make the sessions available to as many people as possible.
On the day of your workshop:
Arrive at Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome and park. Don’t Use the Postcode to find us! Head straight up to the Airmen’s Mess. You can’t miss it – just follow the path up through the site.
Once you are settled in and everyone has arrived, we’ll get you into the Hangars and exhibitions to learn a little bit about flight, the history of it and see some real aircraft. This will include a chance to enjoy some of our interactives that you can sit in!
After heading back to the Airmen's Mess, we’ll give you some time to grab Lunch. There is a full Café to buy your lunch from in the Airmen’s Mess, with everything from coffee and cake through to sandwiches, paninis and more. Plenty for hungry tummies! Lunch will be at your expense.
After lunch, we’ll get you beavering away at one of our projects. Depending on the day, this might be constructing a wooden aircraft model to take away with you, or even a chance to make a rocket! (One model or rocket per young person)
Just remember – this is for the grown-ups as well as the young people, so you’re going to be there with your family, building and working with them all the way through!
When everyone is finished, all young people will also receive a cloth badge to take away, too.
Please check our FAQ section for more information!
To make it easier, some of those are also answered below:
What if I book but can’t come?
It is REALLY IMPORTANT that you cancel your ticket. Please do this so someone can take your space.
What if it’s raining or horrid weather?
The sessions will continue – although activities may change based on this. But make sure you dress accordingly!
Can I bring my Dog?
We regret that this session is not suitable for pets.
What age is best?
Adults of all ages, young people aged 7-11. Younger people may attend if under the direct care of an extra ticket-holding adult, but please understand we will not be able to provide entertainment or activities for them.
Can I drop off my young people and come back and collect them?
Sorry, no. This is a family session; with 1 adult for each young person, up to a maximum of 3 young people per adult, with up to 30 young people in total per session. At all times the young people will be under the supervision and care of their own adults. As such, their behaviour will be 100% the responsibility of their adults and we reserve the right to ask you to act if their behaviour becomes challenging or upsetting for other people enjoying the session.
Can I come back on more than one day?
We would prefer it if you didn’t – there are lots of families in Essex and we want as many as possible to take advantage of this offer. Please only book one session.
What time does it start?
You should be in the Airmen’s Mess by 10.45 on the day of your session. You will be done by 2.30pm
What Food is available?
There is plenty for you to choose from. Have a look here. There is a great range of soft drinks and cakes, so lots to enjoy.
