Injured Pilot Recovering After Incident During Air Show

Following the incident on 16 August 2026 and subsequent update, Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome is happy to report that the pilot from The Turbulent Team, injured during our Air Show, has been released from the Intensive Care Unit. His recovery is continuing with the support of his family and friends and the good wishes of the whole aviation community. We have the permission of the family to release this information.

The site reopened to the public on Friday 21 August as planned.The museum was bustling with visitors enjoying our exhibitions and The Airmen's Mess café. We are continuing to work closely with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) and have resumed air operations. As always, these activities are subject to our normal PPR process for visitors arriving by air.

Ian Flint, Chief Executive Officer of Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome, said:

"This was a distressing incident, and we are all relieved to hear that the pilot is continuing to recover. We would ask everyone to join us in respecting his family's request for privacy during his ongoing treatment. We will not be issuing any further updates.

"We continue to be extremely thankful for the outpouring of support from the community, both online and in person, and for the continuing hard work of our volunteers, event partners and staff.

"We are now looking forward to welcoming visitors to our remaining events of the season, as well as to our regular opening days."
